Teaching

I am passionate about teaching and mentoring young people to build foundational skills and knowledge in psychological science, but also how to become successful critical thinkers. I have a certificate in Teaching and Learning from Rice University's Center for Teaching Excellence, for which I was also a graduate fellow. Below is an outline of my personal teaching philosophy and a summary of all my previous teaching experiences.

Teaching Philosophy

As an instructor, I have the following goals:

  • Establish and maintain an equitable and safe space that will allow students to take risks in their learning.

  • Foster self-directed learning and curiosity in psychological science.

  • Encourage students to apply psychological knowledge when considering personal, community, and worldwide issues.

  • Cultivate respect for diversity in all forms and exploration of the role of psychology in addressing issues of equity and inclusion.

  • Develop students’ science literacy and critical thinking as a foundation for moving into professional society.

  • Modeling values and empirically-supported approaches in my own teaching.
